You may already have your eye on festivals, farmers markets, and big events, but we’ve got you covered if you’re looking for a more relaxing weekend.
Check out our favorite things to do in the area this spring.
Check out a local brewery
If your need a rainy day activity (or just want to head inside for a bit), Why not try a beer tour? These small group tours include transportation, which means extra safety for all. The tours usually last a few hours and cover three of the best small breweries in our county. Of course, they’ll provide a look behind the scenes at the brewing process and samples.
There are also lots of great local breweries to check out sans tour. Check out Indigo Brewing Co. for great Latin IPAs and sours. It’s owned by a local husband and wife duo and features an outdoor patio for soaking in that spring sun. Apparition Brew is down the street, which was voted Best of Georgia last year. They also have a distillery, so there’s something for everyone (over 21!).
Visit a farm
Of course, this is the season to get outside. If you’re looking for a family-friendly option, check out some local pick-your-own farms.
Check out DJ’s Farm for pick-your-own blueberries. You can also feed some goats while you’re at it. You can also plan an outing to Warbington Farms for strawberries! You can also check out Anderson’s Sunflower Farm. You can buy freshly cut flowers right from the farm, view scenic fields or pick your own!
Check out a new park
For the best all-around spot, check out Buford Dam Park. It features tons of outdoor activities, including hiking and swimming. There are also many great spots for picnics, so pack all your family’s favorites! There are trails for all adventure levels and great views of the historic dam. And even though the park attracts 11.8 million people per year, it’s spacious enough to not feel overly crowded.
You can also check out the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, just a short distance from Sugar Hill. The area offers lots of canoeing and kayaking options and rentals. Of course, fishing and swimming are also popular options!
For a slightly farther journey, check out the Stone Mountain woodlands. It’s about 45 minutes from Sugar Hill, but well worth the drive and a day trip! Stone Mountain is one of the highest points in the Atlanta area and offers phenomenal views.
Choose one of the many trails that lead around and through the mountain. All are designed for various levels of ability. You can also check out the largest bas-relief carving in the world, which portrays three confederate generals from the American Civil War period.
Take a swim.
As the temps climb a bit higher lat in the season, you might want to take a plunge to cool off.
If you’re looking for some natural wonder, head to Lake Lainer. The spot isn’t named for the water but named after a poet. But the site is a great place to get outdoors and enjoy a beach-like location. The lake is a man-made structure built in the 1950s, constructed to supply the area with Atlanta. But now, there are miles of shoreline and resorts lining the lake. Nearly 10 million people visit each year. You can also check out the islands just a few minutes north of Sugar Hill.
If you’re looking for a little more thrill while in the area, check out Margaritaville at Lanier Islands. It features many great water attractions, including Georgia’s largest wave pool. This is an excellent spot for families or friends. Check out Race to The End or the Blackout slide.
